Karl Rove's Fundraiser for Dave Reichert fails to Attract Significant Last Minute Large Primary Donors

Karl Rove's fundraiser for Dave Reichert was held on September 15th, and the Washington State Primary Election was held on September 19th.  The Federal Election Commission FEC requires that FEC form 6 be filed within 48 hours of contributions of $1,000 or more received after the 20th day, but more than 48 hours, before 12:01 a.am. of the day of any election in which the candidate participates.

Since the Karl Rove fundraiser was held within the required reporting period specified by the FEC for the Washington State Primary, Dave Reichert's FEC Form 6 would have to report all donations of $1,000 or more received at the Karl Rove fundraiser for the Primary.

An inspection of Republican Dave Reichert's FEC Form 6 for September 15th indicates he received a total of $5500 in donations in increments of $1,000 or more for the primary.  And of that amount $2500 was from an out of state PAC from Alexandria Virginia.

Assuming the FEC Form 6 is correct, Karl Rove's fundraiser was only able to attract three additional contributors who had not already contributed the maximum to the primary, as the fund raiser only picked up $3,000 (in $1,000+ increments) in local last minute donations to the primary.  This doesn't have the ring of a very strong draw of new wealthy contributors.

The effectiveness of the Karl Rove fundraiser, and the identity of it secret donors will be revealed in Dave Reichert's Oct 15th FEC filing, expected to be put on the web sometime around Oct 20th.  The reason I say secret donors is based on a LA times story which in part says;

A funny thing happened Friday when Karl Rove, the White House adviser, came to the Seattle suburbs to headline a fundraiser for freshman Republican Rep. Dave Reichert: The congressman did nothing to publicize the visit, and his challenger drew every bit of attention to it she could.

On the day Rove was in town, Darcy Burner, a former Microsoft Corp. executive who is Reichert's Democratic opponent, issued her fifth news release of the week casting the visit in a negative light, and while Rove and Reichert were attending a round-table briefing for Republican donors, about 60 Burner supporters mugged for cameras outside.

But both of Rove's appearances — at the fundraiser and at the round table — were private and closed to the media, so there were no news photographs of Reichert, 56, with campaign mastermind Rove.

But even though donors at Karl Rove's secret fundraiser are obviously trying to hide their actions from the public, their identities will be revealed in Dave Reichert's Oct 15th FEC filing, which must include donors to the General Election.  Assuming that donors didn't falsify their donation date (I'm assuming that would be illegal) these donations would be dated 9-15-06, the date of the fundraisers.  I'm looking forward to seeing who's on the list that are so afraid of being seen in the public with Karl Rove.
